The Spirit of Adventure was taking flight over the skies of Europe in the early 1900's. After WWI flying aces came home, MANY sought out the speed and exhilaration of man and machine, pushing both to the limits. Tim Birkin was one of the most well-known of these playboy thrill seekers. A lead member of 'the Bentley Boys,' this painting portrays Birkin at the wheel of 'blower number one' at the Brooklands speedway in 1929. After the race he commented that he felt at times all four wheels had left the ground. This is why the artist has named this painting "The Flying B," which is now the name of the Bentley hood ornament that flies just above some of the world's greatest handmade engines.
