This painting is titled after the concluding sentence of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address: “That government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

We will all perish. Lincoln himself did so tragically. Yet he was dedicated to the preservation of this great nation in a time when the founding principles were in crisis. Does that not feel like that today?
